Playing the Google Waiting Game.

Let’s say you’re getting a new or improved website for your hair salon. You may be wondering, “How long will it take before potential customers can find me on the Internet?” There are numerous places to gain exposure. Let’s talk about the most likely place: Google.

Contrary to popular belief, Google does not know everything on the Internet instantly. When searching “Boise hair salon,” Google doesn’t scan the whole internet for “Boise hair salon” websites instantly. They check their own humongous database. Google’s database is a copy of what they have found on the internet over the last couple of days, weeks or months.

To build their copy of the Internet, Google has robots (or spiders) that wander around the web, looking for new websites, new web pages and changes to existing web pages. Once Google finds something new, they make a copy and add it to their database.

It can take Google anywhere from a few days to weeks to index new information. They would probably check a typical hair salon website a couple of times per month. They check important, established websites every few minutes to hours.

Why is it important for you to be cached by Google often? No brainer, right? Short answer, you will move up quicker through the search engine ranking pages when your company is receiving SEO service.

Five Factors that can make Google check less frequently: Created a new website. Your website is unreadable by Google (Lots of JPEG files or Flash elements.) A website that contains little or no personalized text & information (Content). Your website does not get updated frequently. (Static). Your website has few or no Links. (Link Juice).

Top 3 Factors that can make Google cache your website more often: You have an existing website. You are updating your website more frequently, over a long period of time You have established links- other websites (blogs, TV/News sites, Business Association sites…) link to your URL from their site

So how long will it take before you show up in Google, after you begin SEO services? It may take a couple of weeks or months. If you don’t have the right website, you may never show up in Google.
