Well As you people might know that GAIM is now PIDGIN and it support multi protocol instant messaging client that allows you to use all of your Instant messenger account at one place. It can work with the following IM networks.

AIMmIRCMSN (now WLM) – GoogletalkYahoo IMICQ and many more!

Okay Now lets talk about further what is PIDGIN?

Pidgin is an instant messaging program for Windows, Linux, BSD, and other Unixes. You can talk to your friends using AIM, ICQ, Jabber/XMPP, MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, Bonjour, Gadu-Gadu, mIRC, Novell GroupWise Messenger, QQ, Lotus Sametime, SILC, SIMPLE, MySpaceIM, and Zephyr.

One thing that caught my eye was the tabs. I could easily switch between one conversation to another using tabs instead of having multiple windows taking up space on the desktop.

Pidgin supports many features of the various networks, such as file transfer, away messages, and typing notification. It also goes beyond that and provides many unique features. A few popular features are Buddy Pounces, which give the ability to notify you, send a message, play a sound, or run a program when a specific buddy goes away, signs online, or returns from idle; and plugins, consisting of text replacement, a buddy ticker, extended message notification, iconify on away, spell checking, tabbed conversations, and more.

The Main and important thing i note that PIDGIN giving away free code because PIDGIN team believes in freedom of communication and aspirations of Instant Messengers Freedom.

I guess I wasn’t hip enough to know about one of the most popular new messengers. I had to be told about Gaim.

Gaim supports old accounts on AIM, ICQ, IRC, Napster, MSN, Jabber, Yahoo!, Gadu-Gadu and GroupWise. This means you can use an existing account from any of these programs, and it will even load up your existing buddylist.

One thing that caught my eye was the tabs. I could easily switch between one conversation to another using tabs instead of having multiple windows taking up space on the desktop.

The makers of Gaim are smart enough to add a lot of the configurations that each of the messenger programs have. For example, I can see the profile pictures from Yahoo right on the buddy list. As well, those weird symbols people add in their name for MSN Messenger are taken care of with some settings.

This program is sure to compete with other multi-messenger programs such as Trillian. Gaim has an advantage because it supports a wider group of operating systems and platforms, not to mention that Gaim is open source.
